چکیده

Sir, Interferons (IFNs) are cytokines widely used in medicine for their antiproliferative, antiviral and immunomodulatory effects. Their most common side effect is an in ̄uenza-like syndrome characterized by fever, headache and muscle pain. Also, IFNs infrequently induce or worsen some dermatoses, such as herpes labialis, psoriasis, pemphigus and vitiligo (1). Several papers have referred to the induction or exacerbation of lichen planus (LP) in patients treated with IFN for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection (2, 3). LP has, however, rarely been described in patients treated with IFN without HCV infection or in patients with melanoma treated with IFN. We describe here a patient with a cutaneous malignant melanoma, stage III, HCV negative, who developed a mucocutaneous lichen planus after 3 months of therapy with recombinant IFN-a-2b.

Face skin hyperpigmentation during pegylated interferon and ribavirin therapy.

Cutaneous hyperpigmentation may be caused by a number of diseases, such as Addison’s disease, scleroderma, haemochromatosis, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, lichen planus, and adverse reactions to some medications such as oral contraceptives, cyclophosphamide, chloroquine, minocycline, bleomycin, ketoconazole and methyldopa (1). Hyperpigmentation of the tongue, face and body skin is a rare adverse effe...

Lichen Planus Induced by Pegylated Interferon Alfa-2a Therapy in a Patient Monitored for Delta Hepatitis

Interferons are used for treatment of chronic hepatitis B. They can induce or exacerbate some skin disorders, such as lichen planus. In this study, as we know, we presented the first case developing lichen planus while receiving interferon treatment due to delta hepatitis. A 31-year-old male patient presented to our outpatient clinic with HBsAg positivity. With his analyses, HBV DNA was negativ...

Lichen planus secondary complications associated with the use of biologic therapy for rheumatoid arthritis.

OBJECTIVES Biologic therapy such as Etanercept, which is a tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) inhibitor, has been extensively used as election therapy in rheumatoid arthritis. The purpose of this case presentation was to inform about the possibility that lichen planus lesions could potentially become complicated by secondary infections in patients treated with Etanercept. Furthermore, we aimed...

Squamous Cell Carcinoma Developing in a Cutaneous Lichen Planus Lesion: A Rare Case

Lichen planus is a benign disorder characterized by an itchy, noninfectious skin rash. Though lichen planus is a common papulosquamous disorder affecting about 1-2% of the population, neoplastic transformation of cutaneous lichen planus lesions occurs very rarely and should be borne in mind while treating nonhealing longstanding lesions of lichen planus. Studies suggest an estimated 0.3-3% risk...

Squamous cell carcinoma arising from chronic hypertrophic Lichen Planus: A case report

Association of lichen planus and cutaneous malignancies is rare. Reports of neoplastic changes are mostly related to buccal chronic erosive lichen planus. We report herein a 29-year-old man who developed squamous cell carcinoma on previous lesions of chronic hypertrophic lichen planus of lower legs. Careful follow up of patients with chronic lichen planus and biopsy sampling of uncommon lesions...
